Jesus and a Chicken Sandwich

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one

who takes refuge in him.”— Psalm 34:8

Our town opened up a new Chick-fil-A restaurant. So, like nearly everyone else in our town and surrounding areas, we've been happily going to get our delicious chicken sandwiches and waffle fries once again! We've not been disappointed, and our bellies have been satisfied.

But one day, about a month after they'd opened, my husband walked into the lobby and was waiting in line when a man came up to him. The older gentleman asked, "Can I ask you a question? I see all these people. The drive-thru is always full. What's the deal?"

My husband kindly replied, "Well, they have really good chicken sandwiches, have you tried one?" The older gentleman indicated he had not, stood around and observed some more, and then quietly left.

As my husband recounted the story to me, we were both incredulous that someone had not seen or tried the best chicken sandwich on this side of heaven. And to think the man just left that day without even trying one!

It made me wonder.

Thousands of people a day wait in long lines—on foot and in cars—for something as trivial and meaningless as a chicken sandwich. Would people, that many people, be as excited to see Jesus if He were in town making an appearance? If He Himself, the Great I AM, was in concert? Or, let alone, speaking at a church service in the flesh?

People at a concert with one woman on top of someone's shoulders

I don't know.

I'd love to think that could happen—that people would hear of His coming and would buy tickets, stand in line, camp out overnight, and cheer Jesus on!

It could happen, I suppose.

It actually needs to happen, honestly. He is coming back, and our world is so lost—we're starving and our souls are dying. And no chicken sandwich, no matter how great it is, can fix that!

People are trying to fill the void in their lives with alcohol, drugs, sex, busyness, etc., and the only thing that can fill that incessant hunger is JESUS.

The Bible tells us:

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”— Psalm 34:8

Oh friend, if you don't know Jesus, I pray that you would introduce yourself to Him. He’s near—He’s only a breath and a prayer away from wherever you are right now, right this very minute.

Woman praying

Find a Bible, find a Christian friend, find a Bible-preaching church, and let Him work in your life. Let Him fill your life with joy, peace, and love—not as the world gives, but only as Christ Jesus can. He loves you, He's fighting for you, and He longs to be with you. Yes, you.

My sincere prayer is that you will find God and not be like the gentleman in Chick-fil-A who was wondering what all the hype was about and then left empty-handed. No—get into His Word, cry out to the Lord, and go to church. Seek God while He may be found.

You can start by praying this prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus,

We acknowledge we need You desperately in our lives. Help us to turn from our evil ways and bad choices and to choose You.We are sorry we have grieved Your heart and want to make a better go at things. Help us to yield control of our lives and trust You to guide and lead us.We look forward to getting to know You more.
